Tibetan Tsa-Tsa Thangka Pendant — Hand-Painted Deity Box Necklace
Tibetan travelers used to carry small pressed clay tablets called tsa-tsas — pocket-sized images of deities meant to travel with them. This pendant keeps that shape but shifts the medium: a wooden frame, a brass crown, a hand-painted figure sealed under resin. Sixteen deities to choose from. One image per pendant.
Paint, Not Print
The technique here comes from traditional thangka painting — the same mineral pigment work found in monastery scrolls across Tibet and Nepal. A thangka painter works from a fixed iconographic grid: every figure has a prescribed color, posture, and set of attributes. Green Tara holds a lotus. Yellow Jambhala holds a mongoose and a jewel. Guanyin has a thousand arms in certain depictions, or just two. Each detail is convention, not decoration — it tells you exactly which figure you're looking at and what they're said to do.
This pendant takes that painted image and seals it under a protective coating. The colors stay vivid. The lines stay sharp. The black wooden frame and the brass ornament at the top are the only materials showing from the outside.
Sixteen Figures — Each One Specific
The variants aren't just visual alternatives. Each deity has its own history, its own association, its own following. Yellow Jambhala (黄财神) is the wealth deity most common in Tibetan households — said to bring material abundance. Green Tara (绿度母) is called on for swift protection. Manjushri (文殊菩萨) is associated with wisdom and clear thinking. Guan Yu (关公) crossed from Chinese folk religion into Tibetan Buddhist practice and is now found in both — a figure of loyalty and protection with a strong following among business owners.
Practitioners choose based on what they're focused on, or simply based on which figure they've had a longstanding connection to. Some people carry the same deity their whole life. Others change depending on where they are.
Care
Keep away from water, perfume, and prolonged direct sunlight to protect the resin coating. Wipe the wooden frame and brass fitting with a soft dry cloth. Avoid dropping — the painted surface can crack under impact.

• Left hand: for protection, healing, or attracting abundance
• Right hand: for releasing or giving energy
