Tibetan Thangka Guardian Deity Pendant — Hand-Painted Tsa-Tsa Amulet for Your Birth Year
In Tibetan tradition, the year you were born determines which deity watches over you. Not a general blessing — a specific figure, with a specific role. These pendants carry that figure. Each one is hand-painted on a tsa-tsa, a small pressed clay tablet used in Tibetan practice for centuries. The paint is applied by hand. No two are exactly alike.
What a Tsa-Tsa Actually Is
Tsa-tsas are small devotional objects made from clay or resin, pressed into molds and then painted or gilded. The tradition goes back over a thousand years in Tibet, where they were placed in shrines, rock crevices, and stupas as offerings. A painted tsa-tsa pendant takes that same form and makes it wearable. The image on the front is not decorative — it is the full iconographic representation of the deity, painted according to established tradition. The colors, hand positions, and attributes each mean something specific.
These are not mass-printed images under resin. The painting is done directly on the surface, which is why the finish has texture and variation. Under close inspection, you can see the brushwork.
The Eight Guardian Deities — One for Each Birth Year
Tibetan astrology assigns a guardian deity to each year in the 12-year cycle. Practitioners call these the "Eight Lords of the Birth Year" — eight deities covering twelve animals because two animals share the same guardian. The assignment is fixed: the year of birth determines the figure, and that figure is considered a personal protector throughout life. Some people wear their guardian deity as a daily reminder of that connection. Others keep it as a more occasional piece, worn at significant moments.
The variants in this listing cover the full set: Manjushri, Samantabhadra, Achala, Vairocana, Mahasthamaprapta, Yellow Jambhala, Green Tara, Four-Armed Avalokitesvara, and Akashagarbha. If you know your birth year in the Chinese calendar, your guardian is fixed. If you are not sure, the year-to-deity chart is easy to find.
Care
Keep away from water and prolonged moisture. The painted surface can be damaged by perfume or oils — avoid direct contact. Wipe gently with a dry soft cloth if needed.

• Left hand: for protection, healing, or attracting abundance
• Right hand: for releasing or giving energy
