Tibetan Thangka Guardian Deity Pendant — Hand-Painted Tsa-Tsa Amulet for Your Birth Year
In Tibetan tradition, the year you were born determines which deity watches over you — not a general blessing, but a specific figure with a specific role. Each pendant is hand-painted on a tsa-tsa, a small pressed clay tablet used in Tibetan practice for centuries. The paint is applied by hand; no two are exactly alike.
What a Tsa-Tsa Is
Tsa-tsas are small devotional objects made from clay or resin, pressed into molds and then painted or gilded. The tradition goes back over a thousand years in Tibet, where they were placed in shrines, rock crevices, and stupas as offerings. The image is a full iconographic representation — the colors, hand positions, and attributes each carry specific meaning. These are not mass-printed; under close inspection you can see the brushwork.
The Eight Guardian Deities
Tibetan astrology assigns a guardian deity to each year in the 12-year cycle. Practitioners call these the "Eight Lords of the Birth Year" — eight deities covering twelve animals because two animals share the same guardian. The assignment is fixed: your birth year determines your protector for life. The full set includes Manjushri, Samantabhadra, Achala, Vairocana, Mahasthamaprapta, Yellow Jambhala, Green Tara, Four-Armed Avalokitesvara, and Akashagarbha.
Care
Keep away from water and prolonged moisture. The painted surface can be damaged by perfume or oils — avoid direct contact. Wipe gently with a dry soft cloth if needed.
