Tibetan Hand-Painted Thangka Pendant in Leather Ghau Box — 20 Sacred Figure Designs
What Makes a Ghau Different
A ghau is a traditional Tibetan reliquary — a small box designed to hold a sacred object, typically worn as a pendant or carried on the body. Tibetan nomads and travelers wore them on long journeys. The idea was simple: keep what matters close, protected, and present. This version is leather-cased, with a hand-painted thangka image visible through a window on the front face. It is larger and more substantial than a standard tsa-tsa pendant — closer in weight and presence to a locket than a bead.
The leather construction makes it lighter than the metal ghau boxes sometimes seen in traditional contexts, while keeping the form recognizable. It sits differently on the chest — more deliberately, more visibly.
Figures Available
Twenty designs span Tibetan Buddhist, Chinese Buddhist, and Chinese folk traditions. Guru Rinpoche — Padmasambhava — is one of the most revered figures in Tibetan Buddhism, the teacher credited with bringing the dharma to Tibet in the eighth century. White Tara is associated in tradition with long life and compassion; practitioners sometimes keep her for those they love who are unwell. Green Tara appears in three style variants. Amitabha appears in two. Medicine Buddha holds the lapis-blue form practitioners have sought for centuries. Guan Yu is the Chinese deity of loyalty and righteousness — widely kept by those in business or service. Zakiram is a Tibetan goddess associated with wealth. The fox spirit variants — White Fox, Red Fox, and Style C — come from Chinese folklore, where fox spirits appear as intelligent, mercurial figures of luck and transformation. Akashagarbha and Acala round out the more specialized selections for practitioners who know them.
Care
Wipe the leather exterior with a dry soft cloth. Keep away from prolonged moisture and perfume. The leather will develop a natural patina with use — that is expected.

• Left hand: for protection, healing, or attracting abundance
• Right hand: for releasing or giving energy
