Tibetan Ghau Pendant — Hand-Painted Deity Tsakli in Filigree Brass
A Ghau is a Tibetan amulet box — worn, carried, or kept at an altar. Inside this one sits a Tsakli: a hand-painted clay tablet no wider than a coin, depicting one of several Tibetan Buddhist deities. The brass frame around it is woven filigree, set with three turquoise-colored stones. It looks like something that has been around.
What a Tsakli Is
Tsakli are small consecrated images, painted on clay or paper, used in Tibetan Buddhist ritual for centuries. Monks used them as teaching aids and altar offerings. The format stayed small by design — portable, concentratable, close. The painting is done by hand, which means no two are identical. Colors shift slightly. A line may sit a hair off-center. That is not a flaw — it is how you know a person made it.
The Brass Frame and Choosing a Deity
The outer case is yellow brass worked into rope-twist filigree, with three small turquoise-colored cabochon stones set flush. The pendant comes in many variants — Kubera the wealth deity, Mahakala the protector, Tara in her green and white forms, Manjushri, and others. Each carries a different association. Pick the one whose story fits where you are right now.
Care
Wipe the brass frame with a soft dry cloth. Keep away from perfume, water, and sweat. The clay insert is fragile — avoid impacts and do not submerge.
