Tibetan Cinnabar Thangka Relief Pendant — Sacred Figure Ghau Amulet in Gold-Plated Frame
Tibetan thangka paintings take months to complete and rarely leave the monastery wall. This pendant takes that same iconography — the deity, the flame halo, the lotus throne — and renders it in raised cinnabar relief inside a gold-plated frame you can wear. Eight sacred figures are available, each from a different corner of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
The Figure in the Frame
The relief is modeled after traditional thangka imagery — sacred scroll paintings used in Tibetan monasteries for meditation and ritual, each deity depicted according to strict iconographic rules passed down over centuries. Yellow Jambhala is the wealth deity: red-bodied, holding a mongoose said to spill jewels. Green Tara is the swift protector. Manjushri carries the sword of wisdom. The tsa-tsa technique — pressing material into carved molds — has been used in Tibetan Buddhism for over a thousand years.
Why Cinnabar
The relief is made from cinnabar — a deep red mercury sulfide mineral with a long history in Chinese and Tibetan ritual craft. At 26 grams, this pendant has real weight. The frame is white copper with gold plating, accented by turquoise-colored stones and red cabochons. The scrollwork border follows patterns found on ghau amulet boxes — reliquary cases Tibetan monks and nomads have worn close to the body for generations.
Care
Keep away from water, perfume, and prolonged sunlight. Wipe the gold-plated frame with a soft dry cloth. Store separately to avoid scratching the relief surface.
