Raw Amethyst Wire-Wrapped Pendant Necklace — Stone of Calm & Inner Clarity
This amethyst was not polished or shaped. It came out of the ground and stayed that way — ridged, uneven, its color ranging from pale lavender to deep violet depending on the angle. Silver-tone or gold-tone alloy wire is coiled by hand around the stone, adapting to each piece's irregular shape. The wire pattern varies from pendant to pendant because the stone refuses to be uniform.
Two Thousand Years of Clarity
The ancient Greeks carved drinking cups from amethyst, believing it kept the mind clear — the word amethystos means not intoxicated. Roman soldiers wore amethyst amulets. Medieval bishops wore it on their rings. Leonardo da Vinci wrote that it sharpened intellect and drove off distraction. For most of recorded history, amethyst sat alongside ruby and sapphire in value. Only after large deposits were found in Brazil in the nineteenth century did supply increase. The stone did not change. Its availability did.
What the Tradition Holds
The oldest consistent association is clarity — the idea that amethyst helps a person think straighter, feel less scattered, stay more present. Practitioners describe a settling quality, useful during meditation or at the end of a loud day. In the chakra system, amethyst is tied to the Crown and Third Eye, governing spiritual awareness and intuition. A pendant at chest level bridges the emotional centers below and the mental centers above — close enough to stay warm from body heat, present enough to wear all day.
Care
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade amethyst over time. Keep away from perfume, lotions, and water. Store flat or hanging to protect the cord.
