Ghau Box Pendant with Hand-Painted Tsakli Deity — Miniature Tibetan Locket Necklace
Tibetan pilgrims used to carry a small reliquary box against their chest — a ghau — with a deity figure sealed inside. This pendant is that tradition at 19.7mm. Gold-tone titanium steel frame, glass front, and a hand-painted miniature deity in polymer clay inside. Small enough to wear daily. Clear enough to see the figure.
What a Ghau Box Is
A ghau is a Tibetan reliquary locket worn as a pendant or fastened to clothing. Nomads and pilgrims kept them close during long journeys. Inside went whatever the wearer considered sacred — a rolled mantra, a relic, or a small image of a protective deity. This version keeps that structure intact: titanium steel frame, glass face so the figure is visible without opening.
The Figure Inside: Clay, Not Print
Each deity figure is a tsakli-style miniature — a format with roots in Tibetan ritual art, where small painted images served as portable stand-ins for larger thangka scrolls. These figures are polymer clay, shaped and painted by hand. Color, facial features, headdress details — done individually. Because each one is finished by hand, no two are exactly alike. Minor variations are normal and are the point.
Available figures include Green Tara, Mahakala, Yellow Jambhala, and others — each associated with different intentions in the tradition.
Care
Wipe the metal frame with a soft cloth. Keep away from perfume and prolonged moisture. The clay figure inside should not get wet — avoid submerging. Remove before swimming or bathing.
