Tibetan Ghau Pendant — Hand-Painted Deity Tsakli in Filigree Brass
A Ghau is a Tibetan amulet box — worn, carried, or kept at an altar. Inside this one sits a Tsakli: a hand-painted clay tablet no wider than a coin, depicting one of several Tibetan Buddhist deities. The brass frame around it is woven filigree, set with three turquoise-colored stones. It looks like something that has been around. It hasn't — but the tradition behind it has.
What a Tsakli Is
Tsakli are small consecrated images, painted on clay or paper, used in Tibetan Buddhist ritual for centuries. Monks used them as teaching aids and altar offerings. The format stayed small by design — portable, concentratable, close. The one inside this pendant follows the same format: a single deity rendered in detail on a surface about the size of a thumbnail.
The painting is done by hand, which means no two are identical. Colors shift slightly. A line may sit a hair off-center. That is not a flaw — it is how you know it was made by a person.
The Brass Frame
The outer case is yellow brass, worked into a rope-twist filigree border. Three small cabochon stones sit at the top, bottom, and side — turquoise-colored, set flush. The finish is matte gold. It does not shine aggressively. It sits quietly against skin or fabric.
Ghau boxes traditionally open so the sacred image inside can be revealed during prayer or changed out for different occasions. This pendant keeps that logic intact: the Tsakli is visible through the open face, but the brass surround protects it.
Choosing a Deity
This pendant comes in many variants — Kubera the wealth deity, Mahakala the protector, Tara in her green and white forms, Manjushri, Zajiralamu, and others. Each carries a different association in Tibetan practice. Kubera and the Five Wealth Gods are long associated with material abundance. Mahakala with protection and clearing obstacles. Tara with swift aid.
Pick the one whose story fits where you are right now. Or the one whose face you keep returning to. That is also a valid way to choose.
Care
Wipe the brass frame with a soft dry cloth. Keep away from perfume, water, and sweat. The clay insert is fragile — avoid impacts and do not submerge.

• Left hand: for protection, healing, or attracting abundance
• Right hand: for releasing or giving energy
